St George, UT 84770

Course Description

  • Par 73
  • 18 Holes
  • 7,217 Yards

The St. George Golf Club represents the city's most ambitious municipal golf course project. Once a forgotten and struggling course in the Southern Utah golf scene, the St. George Golf Club has now received seven years of committed care and maintenance under city management. The course is now known for its extensive waste areas that come into play throughout any round. Similar to the natural hazards found at many of the Desert Southwest's best courses, these waste areas make great use of the natural terrain and provide an unique, challenging golf experience.

While many of the municipal courses in St. George feature short layouts that place a premium on accurate iron play, the St. George Golf Club's traditional par 73 layout measuring 7,217 yards allows golfers to regularly test their drivers. While the vast fairways of the longer holes provide plenty of enjoyment, the par 3s at the St. George Golf Club probably offer the greatest challenges. With numerous water hazards and an average distance of 190 yards, these holes represent some of the best par 3s in Southern Utah. The course's most challenging oddity is the double green that serves both the 9th and 18th holes. Much like the water-protected greens of the par 3s, the 9th and 18th holes require excellent approach shots and focus around the putting surface.

Though the St. George Golf Club underwent a Renaissance in recent years, the player-friendly layout dates to a time known for walkable course designs and less-extreme putting surfaces. Though the layout winds through the rugged area of Ft. Pearce Wash, the lengthy course remains a favorite destination for walking players. Likewise, the mature greens are mostly devoid of large tiers and undulations, allowing golfers of all skill levels to test their long-distance putting skills.

The clubhouse at the St. George Golf Club sits atop a bluff overlooking the course and the Bloomington Hills area of the city, enticing players to enjoy a bit of scenery every time they play. As further testament of the course's local popularity, The St. George Golf Club is also home to the annual St. George Amateur golf tournament.
