AAA Rousse hauls appliances, furniture and bulky items in the St. George area. Getting a large object out of a house is the mirror image of getting it in, with one difference that works against the crew: whatever came in when the house was empty now has to leave through a house full of things.

Worth knowing

The geometry is the same problem in reverse. What governs is the smallest diagonal cross-section of the item against the clear width of each opening it must pass, and then whether it can be pivoted at every turn between there and the street. A stairway landing with a ninety-degree turn is where most removals stall. Doors are taken off their hinges, which recovers the thickness of the door and the stop, and the hinge pins are the first thing a crew reaches for. Sofa legs and backs come off. Appliance doors come off. A large item that genuinely will not pass is dismantled where it stands, which is a legitimate answer for a piece being discarded and not one available on a delivery.

A few items need preparation the crew cannot do on arrival. A refrigerator or freezer should be emptied, defrosted and dried, since a unit moved with water in it leaks down every stair on the way out. A washing machine needs its water lines disconnected and drained. A gas appliance needs its supply shut off and disconnected, which in most cases is a job for a plumber rather than a hauler. And anything with refrigerant in it is bound by the federal recovery rule regardless of who moves it. Knowing this before the truck arrives is the difference between a removal and a rescheduled appointment.
