The Bear Paw Coffee Company began in Anchorage, Alaska in 1989, and its founder opened this second location in St. George in 1995, in the historic St. George Co-op Mercantile Building on Main Street. Belgian waffles, hand-crafted pancakes, French toast and crêpes are what it is known for, and it has taken Best of Southern Utah honors for breakfast in five consecutive years.

The St. George Co-op Mercantile Building is part of the pioneer commercial core on Main Street, from the period when the settlement ran cooperative stores under the church's economic program.
