Dirty Dough was founded in Tempe, Arizona in 2018 by Bennett Maxwell and later moved its base to Utah, where it became the other side of what local press christened the Utah cookie wars: Crumbl sued it in 2022 over allegedly similar branding and trade secrets, the two fought through 2023, and they agreed to settle. The stuffed cookie — a filling enclosed in dough rather than mixed through it — is its own format.
