Context

Infill and base preparation decide how an installation performs and how long it lasts. Beneath the turf sits a compacted aggregate base that has to drain and stay level; infill spread through the fibers holds the blades upright and adds ballast. Pet installations need infill and backing chosen for drainage and odor, which is a different specification from a lawn — the visible grass is the smallest part of the job.
