Wood Ash Rye
Chef-driven restaurant and bakery inside The Advenire, the Autograph Collection hotel on St. George Boulevard.
The concept came from chefs Shon Foster and Jason Neeley of Sego in Kanab, and the seasonal menu draws on southern Utah's pioneer cooking traditions and regional sourcing. Its in-house bakery, &Rye, makes the breads and pastries from scratch. Salt Lake Magazine named it its best restaurant of 2024.
Background
The Advenire opened in 2019 as St. George's first full-service luxury boutique hotel, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, and its arrival marked the point at which downtown began to be treated as a destination rather than a thoroughfare. Shon Foster and Jason Neeley built their reputation at Sego in Kanab, on the far side of the Grand Staircase. Pioneer-era southern Utah cooking drew on what the Dixie Mission could actually grow in the desert — stone fruit, grapes, sorghum and wheat — which is a genuine and under-used regional larder.
