Routed through ancient black lava fields against red-rock and Pine Valley Mountain backdrops, Black Desert was Tom Weiskopf's 73rd and final design, completed by architect Phil Smith of Weiskopf Design after Weiskopf's death in August 2022. It has quickly become one of the region's marquee venues, hosting the PGA Tour's Black Desert Championship in 2024 (won by Matt McCarty; the event became the Bank of Utah Championship in 2025) and the inaugural LPGA Black Desert Championship in May 2025.
