Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club

Entrada is the most exclusive golf in the St. George area and, since its rebuild, one of the
most architecturally serious. The club sits directly against Snow Canyon State Park
on the northwest edge of the city, and the terrain it occupies changes character three times over
eighteen holes.

The 2022 rebuild

The original course opened in 1996 to a Johnny Miller and Fred Bliss design. In December 2020 the club
began a complete strip-down, and David McLay Kidd, the architect of Bandon Dunes and Gamble Sands,
rebuilt it over seventeen months. The front nine reopened in February 2022 and the full course in
April. It was not a resurfacing. Kidd started underground with new drainage and irrigation and relined
lakes, then relocated tees, recontoured every fairway and rebuilt every green. Golf Digest named it
Best Transformation of 2022.

What Kidd changed

The rebuild follows the philosophy Kidd is known for: wide fairways, greens lowered and enlarged, and
surrounds recontoured so a ball can be bounced and run onto the putting surface instead of only flown
there. Recovery is the point. A missed green at Entrada now leaves options rather than a single
prescribed wedge, and the ground is part of the strategy in a way it was not before. From the back
tee the course rates 73.5 with a slope of 139.

The three landscapes

Kidd also opened up sightlines to make the site legible. Holes 15, 16 and 17 run through the black
lava flow, and that stretch is the one people remember. Desert arroyos define the 5th, 9th, 11th,
13th, 14th and 18th, where the wash is a genuine hazard rather than decoration. Water is in play on
the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 12th through a system of streams and irrigation lakes. Very few
courses anywhere change surface this completely without feeling disjointed.

Access

Entrada is a private members' club. Play is limited to members and their guests, plus guests staying
at the Inn at Entrada. Homeowners inside the community are required to hold at least an associate
membership, which is the mechanism that keeps the course tied to the neighborhood around it. Note
that Entrada is not the area's only private club - Bloomington Country Club
has been private since 1969 - but it is the only one built against a state park.
