The nice dinner
The Painted Pony in Ancestor Square is the classic special-occasion pick: upscale New American, a real wine list, the room you book for an anniversary. Wood Ash Rye inside the Advenire hotel is its main rival and arguably the more interesting menu, plus the best cocktails downtown. For a view over a table, Cliffside sits on the ridge above Bluff Street, and a sunset table there is hard to beat.
Make an evening of it
The move is to stack it: an early wander through historic downtown or the Ancestor Square courtyards, dinner at one of the above, and then a show at Tuacahn if it is in season (May through October). A Broadway musical under the red cliffs is a serious closer. In winter, swap the show for the temple lights and a downtown stroll.
A different vibe
If you want something more unusual, drive out to Ivins and eat at Xetava in the Kayenta Art Village: a desert setting, art all around, and a quieter, more romantic feel than anywhere in the middle of town.
Book ahead on weekends for the nicer places, because walk-ins can be tough on a Friday or Saturday night.
