George Streetfest: The First-Friday Downtown Party

Once a month, downtown St. George throws a party in the street, and it is one of the easiest, most fun ways to feel the local scene. If you are in town on a first Friday, go.

What it is

George Streetfest takes over Historic Downtown on the first Friday night of every month, starting around 6 p.m. Tabernacle Street fills with local bands, artists, crafters, and food trucks, with a beer garden tucked into Green Gate Village for the grown-ups. Vendors and food run until about 10, and live music goes to midnight.

The feel

It is genuinely local, not a tourist thing bolted onto downtown but the actual community out enjoying a mild desert evening. At its peak it has pulled crowds approaching 20,000, which for a city this size tells you how much people love it. Families come early for the food and art; the music crowd lingers later.

How to do it

Park a few blocks out and walk in, because the core streets close. Bring cash and an appetite, plan to graze from the food trucks rather than sit down anywhere, and just wander, since the whole point is bumping into things. It is free to attend.
