The Red Cliffs Desert Reserve spans almost 69,000 acres in Washington County, Utah, at the convergence of three ecosystems: the Mojave Desert, the Great Basin, and the Colorado Plateau. It was established as part of a Habitat Conservation Plan to protect the Mojave desert tortoise and other rare and sensitive species.

Recreation

The Reserve's trail network is open to hiking, biking, and equestrian use, offering access to red-rock canyons, desert washes, and scenic overlooks. Trail maps are available to help visitors plan routes and stay on designated paths that protect tortoise habitat.

Discovery Center

The Reserve's Discovery Center (visitor center) is located on the first floor of the Washington County administration building at 111 E. Tabernacle St. in St. George, operated in partnership with the Washington County HCP and the Greater Zion Convention & Tourism Office. It features live ambassador animals such as tortoises, kingsnakes, and tarantulas, interpretive displays on local geology and history, and free travel-planning materials. The Discovery Center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
