Cappeletti's Restaurant
Family-owned Italian restaurant that opened on Tabernacle Street in the summer of 2010, run by Andres and Lorena Cappeletti with their three children.
The cooking is Italian by way of Argentina, which is the family's own background, and is built on handmade pasta and sauces made daily from recipes Andres learned from his mother. The dining room sits in the historic downtown grid a block off Main Street, in a rustic, Florence-inspired room.
Context
Italian cooking by way of Argentina is a real and distinct tradition rather than a novelty: between the 1880s and the 1950s Argentina took in one of the largest Italian migrations anywhere, and Buenos Aires ended up with its own dialect of the cuisine. Handmade pasta is the part most kitchens abandon first, because it demands daily labor that a dried product does not. Tabernacle Street belongs to the original pioneer grid, laid out on the wide blocks the Mormon settlers used across the territory.
