Dixie Trail Rides

Guided trail rides, lessons and other experiences run on the sandy red-rock ground near Snow Canyon State Park, which is genuinely good riding country — the sand is forgiving underfoot and the terrain is open enough to ride at more than a walk. Background

Riding on sand is different work for a horse than riding on packed trail: it is harder going, and it is easier on the legs. The country around Snow Canyon is Navajo sandstone overlain with sand shed from it, which gives long stretches of forgiving ground broken by slickrock — good terrain for a trail string, and the reason horses have worked this landscape since the settlers arrived.
