Express Tints works from Deseret Drive on the far east side and covers all three markets for window film: vehicles, houses and commercial buildings. The three use related products and completely different reasoning, and in a valley like this one the residential side of the business is arguably the more consequential of them.

The wider picture

Glass is the weakest part of any building envelope, and in a St. George summer the west and south-facing windows of a house are usually its single largest heat load — sunlight arrives as radiation, passes straight through the glazing, and becomes heat inside the room where the air conditioning then has to remove it. Architectural window film is a retrofit answer to that: a spectrally selective layer applied to existing glass that rejects a large share of the solar energy without replacing the windows. The same ultraviolet rejection that keeps a dashboard from cracking keeps flooring, furniture and artwork from bleaching, which in a house with a lot of glass is the benefit owners notice years later. There is a real constraint: film changes how a pane absorbs and sheds heat, and the wrong film on some sealed double-glazed units raises thermal stress or affects the window warranty, so matching the product to the glass type is the part of the job that requires an installer rather than a shopping decision.
