About an hour toward Kanab, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is a surreal landscape of wind-sculpted pink sand — the eroded remains of Navajo sandstone — rising against the surrounding pines and red rock.
What to do
- Sandboarding and sledding: rent or bring a board and ride the dunes; the day-use area is popular with families
- OHV riding: a large portion of the dunes is open to off-highway vehicles, with a separate conservation area set aside for foot traffic and quiet
- Photography: the pink sand glows at sunrise and sunset
- Camping: a campground with reservable sites
Tips
- The sand gets blazing hot midday in summer — go early or late
- It's a bit of a drive, so pair it with a Kanab or Zion east-side trip
- Bring water, sun protection, and something to keep sand out of your gear
