Whiterocks Amphitheater in Snow Canyon
On the north end of Snow Canyon State Park, the Whiterocks Amphitheater is a striking bowl of pale, cream-colored sandstone ringed by red-rock peaks — a short, family-friendly hike with an outsized payoff. It's minutes from St. George in Ivins.
The hike
- Distance: about a half-mile to the amphitheater (roughly 1.1 miles round trip), with minimal elevation gain
- The scene: a wide, white sandstone bowl you can wander into, set against soaring cliffs — a dramatic contrast to Snow Canyon's red rock
- Leashed dogs are welcome on this trail
Tips
- The Whiterocks trailhead is on the park's north side (off Highway 18) — a different entrance than the main scenic drive
- Go at golden hour for the best light on the white rock
- Little shade and slickrock underfoot — bring water and grippy shoes
- It connects to longer routes (the Gila Trail and beyond) if you want to extend the day
