In-situ dinosaur trackways

The Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm is built directly over the sandstone where the fossils were found, letting visitors see roughly 200-million-year-old dinosaur footprints preserved exactly where the animals walked. The tracks record theropod dinosaurs crossing the muddy shoreline of an ancient lake system that once covered the region in the Early Jurassic. Many paleontologists regard the site as one of the finest dinosaur track sites in the world.

What's on display

Beyond the trackways, the museum holds fossil fish bones, aquatic animal shells, and fossilized plant material including leaves and seeds, which together help reconstruct the ancient lakeside ecosystem. Full-size dinosaur reproductions are on view, and interactive exhibits let visitors follow track sequences, make their own impressions, and handle replica fossils.
