Museums in St. George

St. George has a surprisingly good museum lineup for a town its size — dinosaurs, wildlife, art, and pioneer history, most of it kid-friendly and air-conditioned (which matters in July). Here's the roundup.

Dinosaurs, right where they were found

The St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site at Johnson Farm is the headliner — a museum built directly over thousands of real Jurassic dinosaur tracks, on Riverside Drive. You're looking at actual footprints in the rock where they were made. Great for all ages.

A world of wildlife

The Rosenbruch World Wildlife Museum, over by the convention center, displays 300-plus animal species in detailed habitat recreations, with a hands-on children's gallery. It's bigger and more immersive than most people expect.

For the little ones

The St. George Children's Museum, in a historic building on Main Street downtown, is all hands-on, build-and-explore play — the go-to for younger kids.

Art and history

The St. George Art Museum downtown shows regional and national work in rotating exhibits. For pioneer history, the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum and the Brigham Young Winter Home downtown tell the story of the city's 1860s founding, and the free Sears Art Museum sits on the Utah Tech campus.

A couple of honest notes

Hours and admission vary — some are free, some charge a small fee, and a few keep limited days — so check before you go, especially Sundays and Mondays. But between the dinosaur tracks and the wildlife museum alone, you've got a full, cool-indoors day when the heat is too much.
