Veyo Pool and Crawdad Canyon

An old local institution

Veyo Pool has been a southern Utah getaway since the 1920s. It sits in a private canyon about half an hour north of St. George, where the elevation and the canyon walls keep it roughly 12 to 15 degrees cooler than town — the reason it has survived as a summer destination for a century.

The pool is spring fed, held around 85°F, and drained and refilled overnight.

Climbing

Crawdad Canyon is the other half of the draw and is unusual: a privately owned sport climbing area with 234 bolted routes on solid basalt, walls to about 85 feet, and grades from 5.6 to 5.13. That combination of easy access and volume at moderate grades makes it a well-known winter and shoulder-season crag. Bring your own gear — nothing is rented or sold on site.

Crawdads can be caught in the adjacent creek, with buckets from the concession. The campground has 28 sites with picnic tables and fire rings, centralised restrooms with hot showers, drinking water and firewood.

Practical

This is a private resort, not a public park, so there is an admission charge and a season — check before driving up.
