Bluff Street is the old highway through town, running beneath the red sandstone ridge it takes its name from, and it carries much of St. George's north–south traffic. That puts the hotel between the two things most visitors come for — Snow Canyon State Park to the north-west and Zion National Park about forty-five minutes east.

Guertin set it up so independent motel owners could refer guests to each other along the western highways, and for decades it operated as a referral network rather than a franchise.
