The city is also the base for far more than Zion: Snow Canyon State Park, Sand Hollow and Quail Creek, the Red Cliffs area, a substantial golf scene, and the Mojave-edge landscapes toward the Arizona border. Las Vegas is the nearest major airport, which shapes how many visitors arrive.
Seasons here run opposite to the mountains
This is the thing that surprises visitors from northern Utah. Spring and fall are the premium seasons in St. George — the weather is superb, Zion is busy and the golf courses are full, so that is when rates and occupancy peak.
Midsummer is the quiet, hot season. July highs average near 102°F, and while the resorts stay busy with pool traffic, midsummer is often the value window rather than the peak. Winter is mild by Utah standards and draws a steady population of seasonal residents and golfers escaping colder places.
If your dates are flexible, late fall and early spring generally give the best combination of weather, availability and price. If you are coming for Zion specifically in June, July or September, book well ahead — those are the months the park's own figures show as busiest.

- Confirm the distance to what you came for. Zion's main entrance is a drive from St. George, not a walk from the lobby.
- If you are hiking, check whether breakfast is served early enough. Summer hiking here means starting at dawn.
