Opened in 1963 and attributed to architect John V. Lagant, Southgate is a shorter par-70 that plays about 5,899 yards along the Santa Clara River at the foot of Tonaquint Mountain. Most of the front-nine holes carry water features (the front nine was rebuilt after the 2005 Santa Clara River flood), while the back nine climbs the foothills for red-rock and downtown views — a gentle, walkable course rather than a championship test.
