Little Valley Pickleball Complex

The Little Valley Pickleball Complex is a city-run facility on the east side of St. George with 33 dedicated outdoor courts — the largest public pickleball venue in Utah, and the reason the sport has the profile here that it does.

What "dedicated" means, and why it matters

Most towns play pickleball on tennis courts with extra lines painted on them, sharing the space and negotiating for it. Little Valley is not that. Every court here was built as a pickleball court, with its own net posts, its own fencing, and its own dimensions, which is the difference between a place that tolerates the sport and a place built around it.

At 33 courts, the complex can run an open-play rotation, a league, and a lesson at the same time without any of them displacing the others. That capacity is what lets it host events the region could not otherwise bid for.

Playing here

The courts are city property, and when they are not booked by an organized program there is no charge to use them. Court time can be reserved through the St. George recreation department, which is worth doing for a group; drop-in play is the normal way in for one or two people.

The complex is lighted for night play, which reads as a small amenity elsewhere and is a structural one here. From June into September, the middle of the day on an exposed hard court is genuinely unwise, so play compresses into early mornings and the hours after sunset. Lights are what keep the second of those available.

There are restrooms, shade structures, benches and picnic tables, and parking on site.

The tournaments it draws

The facility was named Public Facility of the Year by the Professional Pickleball Registry in 2020, and it hosted the USAPA West Regional tournament in 2016.

Its standing engagement is the Huntsman World Senior Games, the largest annual multi-sport event in the world for athletes over 50, which has included pickleball since 2003. The pickleball tournament runs across six days and outgrew a single site some time ago — it now uses Little Valley alongside the courts at SunRiver. More than a thousand players entered the pickleball event in 2024 alone, which gives a sense of the scale the complex is built to absorb.

The city's other courts

Little Valley is the main venue but not the only one. St. George also maintains pickleball courts at Vernon Worthen Park downtown, at Bloomington Park, and at Ledges Park, each of them a handful of courts rather than a complex. Those are the better choice for a casual game near where you are staying; Little Valley is where the organized play is.

Age-restricted communities add more. SunRiver has its own courts and its own programs, which is a real part of what residents there are buying and the reason it serves as the second Senior Games venue.

Finding it

The complex is at 2149 Horseman Park Drive, in the Little Valley area on the southeast side of the city, out past the Little Valley sports fields. It is a straightforward drive from anywhere in St. George and well signed once you are on Horseman Park Drive.
