St. George, Utah ZIP Codes: 84770, 84790 and the Rest of Washington County

St. George uses two street ZIP codes, 84770 and 84790, split roughly west-and-north versus south-and-east. Here is which neighborhoods fall in each, the PO-box-only ZIPs, and every town's ZIP across Washington County.

Two ZIP Codes for One City

St. George has two ZIP codes for street addresses, 84770 and 84790, and between them they cover the whole city. Two more, 84771 and 84791, are PO-box-only numbers for post office boxes; no house has either one as its street ZIP.

The split is geographic. Roughly speaking, 84770 is the original city plus the west and north sides, and 84790 is the south and east, where most of St. George's newer growth has gone.

84770: Downtown, the West Side and the North

84770 is the older ZIP and covers the historic core around downtown, so the tabernacle, the temple and the blocks around Main Street all fall inside it. From there it runs west and north. Neighborhoods inside it include:

84790: The South and East

84790 covers the newer half of the city: the ridges and valleys east of the Virgin River and the fast-growing south end toward the airport and the Arizona line. Neighborhoods inside it include:

ZIP lines follow postal delivery routes rather than neighborhood names, so a street near the edge of either area can fall on the other side. When it matters, check the specific address rather than the neighborhood.

The Rest of Washington County

The towns around St. George each have their own ZIP. A St. George mailing address does not always mean St. George city limits, and the reverse is also true, so the ZIP is a mailing detail and not a statement about which city you are in.

What a ZIP Code Does Not Tell You

A ZIP code is a mailing route. It decides none of the things people buying a home usually want it to.

  • Schools. Washington County School District sets attendance boundaries by address, not by ZIP, and Utah's open enrollment lets families apply to schools outside them. The schools section explains how it works.
  • City services and taxes. Which city you live in, and so who provides water, power and police, follows city limits.
  • Neighborhood character. Both St. George ZIP codes contain decades-old streets and brand-new subdivisions. 84790 is not simply "new" and 84770 is not simply "old."

For choosing where to live, the neighborhood orientation guide and the comparison of St. George, Washington, Ivins and Hurricane do more work than a ZIP code can.
